Regenerative agriculture is farmers’ cost-effective weapon against rising input costs and climate change by allowing natural processes to function optimally again.
Landbouweekblad, in conjunction with the Riemland study group, VKB, Grain SA, Dekalb SA and Standard Bank, is bringing world-famous speakers, experts and some of the best South African (SA) farmers together for the first SA conference on regenerative agriculture.
The aim is to give hope to thousands of farmers who are caught in a relentless vice of cost.
SPEAKERS
Jay Fuhrer, a world-famous American expert on regenerative agriculture, is the main speaker. He will discuss the use of cover crops and the integration of livestock to achieve the highest level of soil health.
Johann Zietsman, who has consulted all over the world on grazing, will explain how you can increase your carrying capacity threefold and how you can build up your soil.
Writer and expert Roland Bunch will speak on how to unlock productivity naturally, while weather expertise and expectations for the next 10 years will be covered by Prof. Francois Engelbrecht of the CSIR.
Prof. Johnnie van den Berg will speak on integrated insect management, and Dr. Charlene Janoin-Scheepers will discuss the economy of natural services, while the challenges and progress SA has already faced and achieved in the field of conservation agriculture will be covered Dr. Hendrik Smith.
ACTIVITIES TO PICK AND CHOOSE FROM
A farmers’ panel featuring SA’s best farmers will share their lessons, challenges and successes. Attendees can also see the practical field trials of the innovative Riemland study group, the first demonstration of ultra-high density grazing and exhibitions ranging from drones to precision and adjustable field equipment.
Peter von Kets, who rowed across the Atlantic Ocean on his own, will explain how to handle stress, and Pietman and Andries, the OppieStoep team, will have you in stitches with their comedy performance.
