Egypt’s Agricultural Exports Surge, Shipping 210,000 Tons in a Week

Cairo, Egypt – Egypt’s agricultural and food exports are experiencing a surge, with the country shipping 210,000 tonnes of products in a single week to a diverse range of international markets.

According to the National Food Safety Authority (NFSA), the exports comprised 3,400 consignments from 1,220 companies, covering approximately 660 different product categories.

Vegetable exports led the way, totaling 30,000 tonnes, with sweet potatoes, mixed vegetables, and onions being the top-performing categories. Fruit exports also saw significant volumes, reaching 26,000 tonnes, primarily driven by shipments of strawberries, mangoes, and pomegranates.

The shipments reached 180 markets worldwide, with Italy, India, the U.S., and the U.K. among the top destinations. Logistics hubs like Alexandria Port, Safaga Port, and Cairo International Airport were central to handling the export volume.

To facilitate this growth, the NFSA has streamlined its export procedures, issuing 1,000 health certificates under a new standardized mechanism adopted earlier this year. This move is part of a broader government effort to support the agricultural sector and boost its contribution to the national economy. The robust export performance highlights Egypt’s growing role as a key player in the global food supply chain.
