Kampala, Uganda: The African Union Commission is gearing up to host an Extraordinary Summit on the Post-Malabo Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP) in Kampala, Uganda, from January 9th to 11th, 2025. This pivotal event aims to shape the future of African agriculture and food security.
“The Extraordinary Summit will be a landmark occasion, setting the stage for a new era of agricultural transformation in Africa,” said an official from the African Union Information and Communication Directorate.
The summit will focus on the development of a post-Malabo CAADP agenda, which will outline a ten-year strategy and action plan for 2026-2035. This ambitious plan aims to address the challenges faced by African agriculture, including food insecurity, poverty, and climate change.
Key Objectives of the Summit
- Endorse the Kampala CAADP Declaration: This declaration will provide a vision for transforming Africa’s agri-food systems and achieving sustainable economic growth and shared prosperity.
- Endorse the Ten-Year CAADP Strategy and Action Plan: This plan will detail the specific actions and strategies required to achieve the goals outlined in the Kampala Declaration.
The summit will feature a series of high-level discussions and presentations, including a joint session of Ministers of Agriculture, Rural Development, Water, and Environment, as well as Ministers of Foreign Affairs. The event will also bring together representatives from African Union Member States, regional economic communities, civil society organizations, and development partners.
