20 BEST SHEEP IMPRESS AT INTER-REGIONAL FLOCK COMPETITION

The enthusiasm and display of quality animals showcased the passion and commitment of communal farmers towards their development and progress. The selected animals, chosen from regional flocks, were indeed of the best quality that the communal areas of the Eastern Cape have to offer.

The number of entries, 102, was similar to previous years. There were 24 entries in each of the three ewe categories and 30 in the ram category.

According to judges Kleintjie Pienaar and Charl van der Merwe from BKB, the animals showed a vast improvement over last year.

Here are the results:

Ewe lambs

The lamb category was dominated by Mount Fletcher, which took first, second and fifth places. Sterkspruit was third and NWGA vice-chairperson Zolani Tsheko’s lamb was fourth.

  • Runner-up and fifth place: VMB Shearing Shed, Mount Fletcher (Reg. 24)
  • Third: K. Khayingana, Sterkspruit (Reg. 25)
  • Fourth: Zolani Tsheko, Ntabathemba (Reg. 23)

Two-tooth ewes

Sterkspruit won first, second and fourth places. Lady Frere was third and Peddie fifth.

  • Winner: V Hashtag, Sterkspruit (Reg. 25)
  • Runner-up and fourth place: M. Tshewula, Sterkspruit (Reg. 25)
  • Third: M. Manqola, Lady Frere (Reg. 23)
  • Fourth: V. Maxhwane, Peddie (Reg. 21)

Four-to-eight-tooth ewes

This category showcased animals in the four-year age range. Mount Fletcher achieved first, second, fourth and fifth places, while Lady Frere was third.

  • Runner up and fourth place: Duba, Mount Fletcher (Reg. 24)
  • Third: A. Siwela, Lady Frere (Reg. 23)
  • Fifth: VMB Shearing Shed, Mount Fletcher (Reg. 24)

Rams

The ram category displayed animals of good quality and conformity. As in previous years, the winning ram came from Sterkspruit, with newcomer Bolotwa (Queenstown) taking second, third and fifth places. Mount Fletcher was fourth.

  • Runner up, third and fifth places: G. Soga, Bolotwa, Queenstown (Reg. 23)
  • 4th place: Jukuda, Mount Fletcher (Reg. 24)

Congratulations to Mount Fletcher and Sterkspruit, who have consistently produced higher-quality animals and won numerous awards.

With second and fifth places in the lamb category and fifth place in the four-to-eight-tooth ewes category, VMB Shearing Shed from Mount Fletcher was the overall winner. Congratulations on the impressive quality of your animals.
